88th Anniversary of Holodomor

Today, at the Holodomor Memorial at Exhibition Place in Toronto I stood in commemoration of the 88th anniversary of the Holodomor - the famine genocide perpetrated by Joseph Stalin and his Soviet regime against the Ukrainian people in 1932-33.
As Vice-Chair of the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group, I joined Chair Yvan Baker, Mayor Tory, MP Julie Dzerowicz, MPP Amanda Simard and many others in commemoration.
Earlier this week I participated in a memorial of the Holdomor, and those lost to it on Parliament Hill.
The brutal force of Stalin’s Soviet regime which stole from the people of Ukraine the food of their land is a powerful reminder of the colossal evil perpetrated by authoritarian regimes. Today and on Thursday we stood together to remember the millions of victims of the Holodomor.
Let us remember them by being ever vigilant in the face of authoritarian regimes and never let a crime like this happen again. We must continue to stand with the people of Ukraine as they defend their nation and protect democracy, freedom, and justice for all.
Vichna Yim Pamyat. Memory Eternal.
