Federal Government Extends Support for Long-Term Care & Retirement Homes
In recognition of the significant challenges posed by the risk of COVID-19 and the importance of protecting the health and safety of our most vulnerable populations, Minister Blair confirmed today that our government will continue to support the Canadian Red Cross effort in Ontario through the funding agreement until September 30, 2021.
This support will continue to include assistance with onsite epidemic prevention and control, resident support aides, and facilitating the implementation and maintenance of Infection Prevention and Control measures. At this time, the Canadian Red Cross is currently active in three LTCFs and the federal government is supportive of funding for up to 27 concurrent facilities.
While we evaluate the situation and potential impacts of a third wave, our officials, along with federal partners and the Canadian Red Cross, will continue to work with the Government of Ontario to support the Province of Ontario in finding solutions to assist with the response in long-term care and retirement home communities.
